Collages

A random pile selection of 10 of 300+ raw & unfiltered collages that went into defining Contemporary Patternism, alongside field notes describing my “thoughts on the process” as I went along. Expect to see some of these published on Fabric by the Metre.

Fine art paper collage 'Colour Vision: 1' by Kika Pierides — scattered hand-cut paper shapes in yellow, orange, blue and grey on white

Still looking at including odd shapes as well as triangles into the mix. As a continuation on from my 100 day project I am looking into adapting and developing my approach to creating with random offcuts for my collages. Following on from reviewing my work I decided to select four complementary colours of my choosing but still limiting the range of colours for a more minimalistic vibe (as I did towards the end of the project). I then intuitively cut each coloured paper into odd shapes, created individually coloured piles and randomly placed them onto the paper. Bon day!

And just like that, I am back with new colours and new shapes! Although it is has not been my favourite week Arts wise, it has taught me a lot about the types of shapes I do favour and those I do not - which is always a good thing. More coming soon! Here's another sneaky peaky to get you and I going. Happy Saturday peeps!

Fine art paper collage 'Colour Parade: 1' by Kika Pierides — scattered multicoloured hand-cut paper shapes on white

Still looking at including odd shapes as well as triangles into the mix. As a continuation on from my 100 day project I am looking into adapting and developing my approach to creating with random offcuts for my collages. Following on from reviewing my work today I decided to select four complementary colours of my choosing but still limiting the range of colours for a more minimalistic vibe (as I did towards the end of the project). I then intuitively cut each coloured paper into odd shapes, created individually coloured piles and randomly placed them onto the paper. Bon day!

And now for the final results of last Friday's video! Funny to think that these started off as Tetris inspired shapes 😊🤟

Fine art paper collage 'Parade' by Kika Pierides — sweeping curved bands in red, orange, green, purple and pink

Spot the triangle! 😲😂🥰 I sense a comeback in the works!

Fine art paper collage 'Triangle Series: 2' by Kika Pierides — sharp overlapping triangles in purple, green, yellow and black

Triangle Series: 2

Excerpt: Thoughts on Process

Following on from the 100 Day Project I have decided to make the most of the flow of what I term as being my 'automatic abstracts' and continue on with the theme of shapes - more specifically the triangle (for the time being). That being said here are the resulted of the previous video I uploaded. Enjoy and Bon day!!!

Fine art paper collage 'Candy Cane' by Kika Pierides — flowing curved stripes in pink, yellow, green, mint and purple

And now for something a little bit different... I think I have finally shed my '100 Days' project and taken from it what I would like to move forward with. That being said a common theme within my work is its emphasis on 'colour'. So with this statement I have finally illiminated the black that so defined by '100 Days' project and gone for the purely bright and neon colours that I so love - never knowing when good old black may pop by for a visit! Until then, this is the closest I have got to resembling what is going on in my little old brain so far! Enjoy and bon day! 😁😊🤟

Fine art paper collage 'Triangle to Square' by Kika Pierides — geometric shapes in pink, orange, green and turquoise morphing triangles into squares

And now for the first results in my square or should I say, parallelogram series 🥰
